The Cloud SQL Proxy
While authorized networks with SSL encryption provide a secure method for establishing client connections, the process is rather involved, and if improperly configured, could represent a security risk. Many modern cloud solutions involve dynamic infrastructure that adapts to changing circumstances. Clients may only live for a short period, and may need to rapidly scale to large numbers. Authorized networks and SSL certificates simply do not fit this model very well. To address this, Google provides the Cloud SQL Proxy.
