Backups and recovery
If you plan on using Cloud SQL for any kind of production system, you almost certainly want to perform regular database backups. Cloud SQL supports both scheduled backups and on-demand backups. Backups leverage the same incremental snapshot technology seen in Compute Engine disk snapshots, but at a reduced storage rate of about $0.08 GB/month, depending on location, making backups very inexpensive. When a backup is taken, its contents are stored in two separate regions for redundancy. As with data at rest within the Cloud SQL instance, all backup data is automatically encrypted at rest.
To perform a backup on-demand, simply view the BACKUPS tab in the Cloud Console for your Cloud SQL instance and click Create Backup
