Google Bigtable is a managed service, although slightly less so than Datastore. Whereas Datastore offers a purely serverless model, Bigtable requires that users first create a cluster and specify some basic cluster settings. Once created, Google takes ownership of the cluster nodes, rolling out patches and ensuring uptime, meaning users only need to worry about scaling clusters as needed.
