Google Cloud VPC networks control access to and from Compute Engine instances through the use of firewall rules. Firewall rules in GCP are network-specific resources that apply to every instance within the network. Because the firewall rules exist at the network level, they are applied consistently across any type of VM or operating system. Firewall rules are flexible in that they can apply to the entire network, subnetworks, or individual resources through the use of tags. The net result is an incredibly simple security model that scales to any solution.
