To ensure that instances do not fail under increases in load, MIGs support autoscaling. Operators define a minimum and maximum numbers of instances, and criteria under which to scale the number of instances. The simplest form of autoscaling is based on CPU usage, where instances reaching a certain CPU utilization threshold will cause more instances to be created. More advanced methods include network load, custom Stackdriver metrics, or even aggregations of multiple metrics.
