Startup and shutdown scripts
When starting Compute Engine instances, it is often ideal to perform a certain set of actions, such as installing applications, applying updates, and registering with discovery systems. Likewise, it is often ideal to perform a different set of actions when an instance is being shutdown, such as flushing memory, gracefully shutting down services, and de-registering from discovery services. To aid in these tasks, Compute Engine provides support for startup and shutdown scripts.
