Target proxies
Global load balancers route requests to compute resources based on a number of factors, including capacity, health, and distance from the request's origin. Much of this is achieved via target proxies, which are global resources that perform actions such as terminating SSL traffic and redirecting requests to appropriate resources. Google provides four types of target proxies: HTTP proxies, HTTPS proxies, TCP proxies, and SSL proxies. HTTP and HTTPS proxies are used by HTTP(S) load balancers and direct traffic to URL maps, while TCP and SSL proxies route traffic directly to backend services.
