Forwarding rules
In the context of network load balancing, a forwarding rule is the entry point for traffic into the load balancer. The forwarding rule listens for requests to a regional IP address and protocol, and directs that traffic to a target pool. Because the forwarding rule exists to direct traffic to target pools, the target pool must be created before the forwarding rule. During creation, a static regional IP address may be specified for the forwarding rule. If no IP address is specified, the rule will receive an ephemeral IP address. Generally, a static IP address should be used so that DNS records may be created to direct traffic to the forwarding rule.
