April 9Your Atmosphere
Who clothes with grace all duty; still, I know / Too well the picture has a another side, / —How wearily the grind of toil goes on / Where love is wanting, how the eye and ear / And heart are starved amidst the plenitude / Of nature, and how hard and colorless / Is life without an atmosphere.
John Greenleaf Whittier—“Among the Hills” (1869)
“Clothes with grace all duty”—that sounds like your to-do list today, doesn't it? No? Then perhaps, “How wearily the grind of toil goes on.” Closer?
You simply can't afford to hate any aspect of what you do or you'll feed that hate. Dislike an exercise or yoga pose, and you can bet you'll make it harder. Hate the finance part of your business and you can bet you'll struggle collecting invoices. Embrace the things you dislike and eventually you'll sort of hate them less—not great, but still better. Being an entrepreneur allows you to live amidst the plenitude in some fashion, so how can the heart go wanting in any fashion?
You're in charge of how you interact with your environment, your atmosphere. Never forget that.
