November 27Crafting Your Biography

When I read the book, the biography famous, / And is this then (said I) what the author calls a person's life? / And so will someone when I am dead and gone write my life? / (As if anyone really knew aught of my life, / Why even I myself I often think know little or nothing of my real life, / Only a few hints, a few diffused faint clues and indirections / I seek for my own use to trace out here.)”

Walt Whitman—Leaves of Grass (1855)

For those interested, a quick Amazon search will turn up at least four Whitman biographies and a more exhaustive one will turn up many more housed in university libraries.

So, maybe you're not thinking about your biography just yet. No worries; just know that you're crafting it every day. You didn't know that?

His admission is arguably both an apology and a plea.

In many ways the journey to self-reliance is a journey to become aware of yourself—to witness how you discover and change. And perhaps this is the real biography of everyone's life.

So, to date, what would the chapters of your biography be titled? (Leave a bunch blank as some pretty epic stuff is probably left.)
