The happiness of life is made up of minute fractions—the little soon forgotten charities of a kiss or smile, a kind look, a heartfelt compliment, and the countless infinitesimals of pleasurable and genial feeling.

One of the easiest things to do in business—and this goes for life in general—is to take things for granted.

You accomplished this much, so more is coming. You built this all by yourself. Your clients should appreciate your work more fully. Your team should just work more hours. Your spouse could be a little more understanding.

Until one is no more—and suddenly you wonder how you got to this point, but by then maybe you've squandered some of the “happiness of life.”

Just turn to Facebook for a couple of minutes and witness the trivial pain and genuine suffering of the entitled masses subjected to travesties such as a 30-minute flight delay or a slower-than-usual barista. Lord!

What are you taking for granted? It's amazing that you can fly from San Diego to Kansas City in under three hours and that you can afford a $4 cup of coffee. Let's shut up all the whining already.

Let's hold dear the “charities of a kiss or smile, a kind look, a heartfelt compliment.”

Warning: This is not new news ahead—it's just the secret to happiness.

Please, take 10 minutes at the start of each day and thank the world for everything you have and—what the heck—do it again tonight.
