June 1Firmly to Hope
Hope is the thing with feathers— / That perches in the soul— / And sings the tune without the words— / And never stops—at all— / And sweetest—in the Gale—is heard— / And sore must be the storm— / That could abash the little Bird— / That kept so many warm.
Emily Dickinson—“Hope is the thing with feathers” (1891)
Many people witness entrepreneurs who work through problem after problem only to come out on top and conclude that perseverance and commitment carried them.
The truth is that it was most likely hope.
Hope is what carries you beyond where most give up, because hope provides the faith that you can achieve your goal. It's not a wish or a desire, or even optimism; it's a belief that you will, perhaps must, overcome an obstacle or achieve a goal.
Today, connect with nature, for there is no better model of hope. Just start walking outdoors, lie in some grass, sit under a tree—let hope perch in your soul.
