December 11Defining Beauty

Wherever the soul catches a glimpse, in any form, of a perfect union of Love and Truth, it rejoices in the radiant marriage vesture, and names it Beauty. In all these forms, the soul sees the face of its Parent. It is reminded of its home, and drawn thither. Hence, next to the word “harmony,” “a joyous perception of the infinite” is the most common definition of Beauty.

Lydia Maria Child—“What Is Beauty?” (1843)

Child's essay is an attempt to describe a thing called beauty.

Not in ways you might find portrayed in make-up ads, fashion mags, billboards, and television spots.

In the essay she comes to the conclusion that it is not a physical or even tangible thing but that it is something felt. While everyone gets to define what real beauty is to them, when pressed most express it as an inner feeling.

So, what is beauty to an entrepreneur? How do you feel beauty in your life, in your work? How do you blend truth and love in your entrepreneurial journey?

Maybe it's in doing things that others won't, in finding ways to do things that require money you don't have, in doing things you were told were impossible.

Those answers might surprise some, but not you; you're unusual.

That's what is so awesome about doing your own thing. It's beautiful any way you want to frame it.

Challenge Question
