October 18Unexplored Lands
All the past we leave behind; / We debouch upon a newer, mightier world, varied world, / Fresh and strong the world we seize, world of labor and the march, Pioneers! O pioneers!
Walt Whitman—Leaves of Grass (1865)
A pioneer is a person among the first to explore or settle a new country, area, or idea. Whether it is a physical location or part of your mental journey, think about all of the space you have covered. Where have you traveled to get to where you are today?
Many times initial change is viewed in a negative light. How has the change created by your journey been negative? How has it been positive? Think about those times of transition, when something's been hard and viewed poorly in the beginning but completely worth it in the end.
What knowledge did you gain from the trek? Sit with this knowledge and let it ground you. Find the confidence in what you've earned from that experience.
Now use that energy to take the next step. Where do you want to go from here?
Challenge Question
- Where will you pioneer today? How will you pioneer today?
