February 4What Is Wild?
Our village life would stagnate if it were not for the unexplored forests and meadows which surround it. We need the tonic of wildness … At the same time that we are earnest to explore and learn all things, we require that all things be mysterious and unexplorable, that land and sea be indefinitely wild, unsurveyed and unfathomed by us because [it is] unfathomable. We can never have enough of nature.
Henry David Thoreau—Walden (1854)
Today's overt exclamation is to get yourself outside—get very, very far outside and into the wild.
For some, modern life actually makes this more of a chore than for others, but the importance mentally, physically, and spiritually cannot be understated.
Scientific study after study makes this advice infinitely practical for those who desire things like improved short-term memory, mental energy, concentration, creativity, and stress relief.
Even as we consume more and more of the land and sea, we shall never fully grasp the whole of the natural world. So why not make it our perpetual classroom?
As you attempt to expand your entrepreneurial vision, you can tap the unfathomed expansiveness of nature to open up new ways of thinking and doing.
Today … let's see—I know! Go take a hike!
