Many sports include items like balls, footballs, pucks, and other
equipment that are passed around by players as they cross the play-
eld to score points. Opposing players try to intercept or otherwise
appropriate the item to bring it back to their side of the playeld.
Since most sports games try to simulate reality realistically, these
items are governed by the natural laws of physics and don’t do any-
thing except move. ey are also separate from the athletes’ uniforms
and any “inventory” on their persons like mitts, bats, and masks. e
