何時使用
要呈現兩個或多個圖表，通常是簡單的折線圖、長條圖或面積圖（或任何兩種圖表
的混合）。這些圖中的資料都使用相同的 X 軸（通常是時間軸），但是圖表本身表
達的資料完全不同，或許在 Y 軸要用不同的刻度或單位。我們想鼓勵閱覽者從資料
集中發現「垂直」關係，例如：關連性、相似性、意外的差異……等等。
為何使用
這些圖表都對齊相同的 X 軸，首先會讓閱覽者認為這些資料是有關係的，然後讓
使用者可以兩兩比較這些資料。在圖 7-42 中，兩份圖表緊緊相鄰，使得曲線相似
性更容易看出來；下方圖表的波峰，大致與上方圖表中引人注意的特點一致，圖上
的格線則讓我們的觀察更精確。比方說，在 1990 到 1991 間的垂直線讓我們看出
兩份圖表此時都位於波段的高點。
將一個圖疊到另一個圖上面，各位可能已經這麼做過。但是藉由獨立顯示每張圖表
（具有自己的 Y 軸），使得每個圖表都能依自身的價值接受檢視，不會受到其他圖
表的視覺干擾。
