Bob Kaplan of the Harvard Business School and David Norton published a wonderful book in 2004, Strategy Maps.30 In it, they explored the ways that a balanced scorecard could be used to guide strategic decisions. The Balanced Scorecard31 is a model they developed as a way of connecting mission, vision, values, and core strategic areas. In many ways, the Balanced Scorecard and the Charter concept introduced earlier, attempt to do the same thing: provide an integrated frame for organizing one’s strategic thinking.
