64. Strategy

Concept

A strategy is a plan for how to reach a vision. We start here and we want to go there, and the strategy is a description of how we plan to do that. Vision is not strategy—although visions imply or suggest strategic foci. Mission is not strategy although mission implies or suggests strategy foci.

Because a complete vision statement includes long-term goals for multiple aspects of the business including financial, marketing, accounting, public relations, government relations, human resources, research and development, IT infrastructure, and so on, the strategy statement will be the longest section in a charter, as much as 20 to 30 pages.
