Carbon oxysulfide (COS) (synonym carbonyl sulfide) is an inorganic polar molecule that has 30 electrons. The electronic polarizability is 6.35 × 10−40 F m2, the dipole moment is 0.715 D, and the ionization potential is 11.18 eV. The vibrational excitation energies and modes are shown in Table 29.1 (Shimanouchi, 1972).
