Tetrahydrofuran (THF: C4H8O), synonym tetramethylene oxide, is a common organic solvent used in industry. The interest in the large molecules, tetrahydrofurfuryl alcohol (THFA: C5H10O2) and THF arises out of their structural similarity to DNA and RNA (Zecca et al., 2005). The molecular structure is closely related to cyclopentane (C5H10) as shown in Figure 140.1, with one of the functional groups −CH2 being replaced with O-atom.
