Phosphorus trifluoride (PF3) is a polar, electron-attaching molecule with 42 electrons. The electronic polarizability is 4.93 × 10−40 F m2, dipole moment 1.03 D, and ionization potential 11.60 eV.
Negative ion formation in PF3 occurs due to dissociative attachment at high energy (>9 eV). The appearance potential and cross section details are shown in Table 45.3 (MacNeil and Thynne, 1970).
