CHLOROETHANE

CONTENTS

Chloroethane (C2H5Cl), synonym ethyl chloride, is a polar, electron-attaching gas that has 34 electrons. Three values for the electronic polarizability are available: 8.09 × 10−40, 9.22 × 10−40, and 7.12 × 10−40 F m2. It has a dipole moment of 2.05 D and an ionization potential of 10.98 eV. The molecule has 18 vibrational modes as shown in Table 95.1 (Shimanouchi, 1972).
