Hexachloroethane (C2Cl6), synonym perchloroethane, is a polar, electron-attaching gas that has 114 electrons. The ionization potential is 11.1 eV.
Total ionization cross sections have been measured by Hudson et al. (2001) as shown in Table 102.1. Figure 102.1 provides a graphical presentation with total ionization cross sections for C2H6 and C2F6 added for comparison. Note the relative change in the cross section as Cl and F are substituted for H.
