TRICHLOROMETHANE
CONTENTS
Trichloromethane (CHCl3), synonym chloroform, is an electron-attaching, weakly polar gas with 58 electrons. Two values for electronic polarizability are available in the literature, 10.6 × 10−40 F m2 and 9.16 × 10−40 F m2. The dipole moment is 1.04 D and the ionization potential is 11.22 eV. The Cl–CHCl2 bond dissociation energy is 3.32 eV and H–CCl3 bond dissociation energy is 4.07 eV.
The molecule has six modes of vibrational frequencies as shown in Table 74.1 (Shimanouchi, 1972).
