Boron trichloride (BCl3) is an electron-attaching gas that has 56 electrons. The electronic polarizability is 1.04 × 10−40 F m2 and the ionization potential is 11.60 eV. The vibrational modes and energies are shown in Table 40.1 (Herzberg, 1945).
Jiao et al. (1997) have measured the total and partial ionization cross sections as shown in Table 40.2 and Figure 40.1. Cross sections suggested by Christophorou and Olthoff (2004) in the low-energy region are also shown.
