Hexane (C6H14) is a linear hydrocarbon molecule with 50 electrons and cyclohexane (C6H12) has a ring structure like benzene without double bonds and has 48 electrons. Limited data are available for the two gases and selected properties of the two molecules are shown in Table 134.1.
C6H12 has 32 modes of vibration owing to its large size, as shown in Table 134.2 (Shimanouchi, 1972). Similar modes of vibration have approximately the same energy as noted by Allan and Andric (1996).
