1,3-Difluorobenzene is a substituted benzene with two atoms of hydrogen replaced by fluorine atoms in the 1,3 position (Figure 123.1). The molecule is alternately designated as m(eta)-difluorobenzene (Lide, 2005–2006). It has polarizability of 11.5 × 10−40 F m2, dipole moment of 1.51 D, and ionization potential of 9.33 eV. The total scattering cross sections are measured by Makochekanwa et al. (2004). and shown in Table 123.1. Figure 123.2 is a graphical presentation including data of selected gases for comparison sake.
