1. The next time you assign a task, take a few minutes to discuss with the employee exactly what is to be done, how it will be measured, and the deadline, and be sure the employee agrees with the task goals and objectives.
2. Once you have discussed and agreed upon a task, have the employee feed it back to you, in his own words, to ensure that what you said and what the employee heard were identical. You may at first be surprised at the misunderstandings that take place in even the simplest job assignments.
