So when I got on to O'Reilly, I was like a kid in a candy store. There are playlists. There are answers. There's on-demand training. It's worth its weight in gold, in terms of what it allows me to do.
Stages of Team Development
Team development is challenging work, but it can be made easier if project leaders develop their own skills in facilitating the process of team building. Here are the basic requirements for project leaders:
- Internalizing and believing in the definition of a team
- Acknowledging their personal role and impact on the group’s work
- Diagnosing problems in group performance
- Giving group members ways to openly discuss the quality and effectiveness of their behavior—what helps and what hinders collaboration
- Using proficiencies in negotiating, influencing, and politics (discussed in Chapter Eleven)
