When a team is at peak performance, it manifests a certain climate and behavioral characteristics. For example, when you observe a top basketball or volleyball team, certain behaviors are obviously present. Just as sports coaches can observe these characteristics in their teams, so, too, project leaders can determine whether or not such characteristics are present in their consulting teams and, if they are not, take action to create them. High-performing teams act in ways that “make the task the boss,” and they work on continuous improvement in what they are doing and how they are achieving results.
