
looking at things we’ve already seen in other ways. Viewing
innovation through a business lens, we see iterative structure,
prerequisite cost conditions, kinds of control, teamwork,
uncertainty, and product. But those are not the categories
artists choose for themselves. Having come this far in our
story, we can now turn the knob on our conceptual microscope
so that the business categories move into the background and
the artists’ categories move into sharp focus in the foreground.
We do this to consider the activities of artists in their own
