tured, can be fundamentally changed in a matter of days,
weeks at most.
The use of IT to drive down the cost of reconfiguration
even affects hardware-intensive realms such as manufacturing
plants. Computer-controlled machines can be reconfigured
between jobs much more rapidly than older, mechanically-
controlled machines. Even the metal-bending world of heavy
manufacturing now sees a very significant reduction in such
costs, though artful making hasn’t yet become the predomi-
nant approach.
