For most of us, the kind of interaction that happens when
working with a really terrific team is work as good as it gets.
Talk with a colleague who has been part of a highly effective
team and you’ll often get a
sense that work has never been
as gratifying since. This can
matter more than money, or
promotions, or any of the other conventional trappings of suc-
cess. People know when they’re working well, when they’re on
fire with excellence. But it doesn’t happen in an environment
