Domain Name System
The Domain Name System (DNS) will be discussed in more detail in Chapter 13, Understanding Name Resolution, but for now, just be aware that it is classed as a support service and resolves fully qualified domains (FQDNs) to IP addresses.
Once the application layer has performed its role, it passes the data to the transport layer, which we will discuss next.
