I would like to finish off this section by briefly mentioning Power over Ethernet (PoE). Since a twisted pair cable is basically a conduit for electricity to travel through, it can also be used to power devices that are not near a traditional power source. Obviously, there are limitations as to how much power these devices can draw based on how much power can be conducted by the cable, but they have some obvious advantages for low powered devices such as Voice over IP (VoIP) phones and wireless access points (WAP).
Moving forward, let's understand the wiring standards that need to be followed while using these cables.
