I use a couple of learning platforms, but I'm on O'Reilly more than anybody else. When you're there, you start learning. I'm never disappointed.I'm always learning. So when I got on to O'Reilly, I was like a kid in a candy store. There are playlists. There are answers. There's on-demand training. It's worth its weight in gold, in terms of what it allows me to do.
DHCP reservations
There may be instances when we have a device on our network that cannot be issued a static IP address, but needs to have the same IP address each time from the DHCP server. In this case, we can set up a reservation (Figure 14.6). A reservation links the device's MAC address to a specified IP address. Every time the DHCP server receives a request from that MAC address, it knows to issue out the specific IP address. An important thing to note is that if you change the NIC in that device, its MAC address will also change. If this happens, the reservation will not work, so you need to ensure you update the DHCP entry also.
