What if there are static addresses slap bang in the middle of the IP address range we wanted to create? Do we need to create one scope that goes up to that address, and then another scope after? It's possible, but not generally practical. Instead, what we can do is set an exclusion within the IP address range we want to use. As you can, no doubt, guess from its name, an exclusion excludes a specified IP address from within a pool being issued to hosts (Figure 14.4):
