I use a couple of learning platforms, but I'm on O'Reilly more than anybody else. When you're there, you start learning. I'm never disappointed.I'm always learning. So when I got on to O'Reilly, I was like a kid in a candy store. There are playlists. There are answers. There's on-demand training. It's worth its weight in gold, in terms of what it allows me to do.
Layer 7 – the application layer
Something important that I would like to clarify from the outset is that applications don't reside on the application layer of the OSI model. In reality, they sit above the OSI model. The application layer acts as an interface between the application and the network model. Any application that supports network communication will be developed using network application programming interfaces (APIs). The API contains code that tells the application how to talk to the application layer.
Rather than the application being at the application layer, there are a number of application layer protocols that the applications will support. Some of these common protocols include the following:
