Performing DNS queries

For a limited time, Windows devices store the results of any previous DNS queries in an area called the DNS cache. Results that are stored here are removed after a period of time has passed, that is, since they were last queried or when the device is shut down. In addition to this being populated by the results of queries, which are dynamic, it also contains static entries that have been populated by the HOSTS file, which we will talk about in more detail later in this chapter. Unlike the query results, the information that's obtained from the hosts file is not removed after a period of time.
