正規化を行うときは、第1 正規形、第2 正規形……といったように段階
をふんで行っていきますが、最初の段階である1 の特徴は、1
ことです。
テーブルにデータを登録していくとき、縦方向にレコードを追加する形
で登録していきますが、横方向の項目（カラム）については固定しておく
必要があります。そのため、複数の同じ項目が出てくる場合は、カラムが
足りずに登録できなくなってしまいます。
例えば商品をデータベースで管理する場合、同じ行に商品1 の名前と価
格、商品2 の名前と価格、商品3 の名前と価格……と増えていくようなデ
ータの形では、データベース上で扱うことができません。そのためまずは
第1 正規形でデータベースに登録できる形にデータを変換していきます。
エクセルなどの表計算ソフトで学校の講義ごとにシートを作り、受講す
る学生を一覧で管理している場合を例にしてみます。これを1 つの表に集
めると、図5-19 のようになりました。今の状態では1 つの講義に対して、
学生ID や学生名の項目が何度も出てきます。このように1 行に対して同じ
項目が繰り返し出てくる表のことを、非正規形と呼びます。
このままの状態ではデータベースで管理することが難しいため、1行の
中に繰り返し出てきている学生の項目を、別の行として独立させます。そ
