データベースにかかる費用には、大きく分けてイニシャルコストとラン
ニングコストがあります（図6-4）。
イニシャルコストは初期費用のことで、

を利用する際に最初に支払う必要のある費用がこれにあたります。
ランニングコストは、データベース導入後にのことです。
オンプレミスであれば電気代、商用データベースやクラウドサービスであれ
ば事業者へ毎月支払う利用料や保守にかかる人件費などがこれにあたります。
イニシャルコストが安いという理由でデータベースの種類や運用方式を
判断してしまうと、後々ランニングコストがかさむことになり、結果的に
割高になってしまうこともあるので注意しましょう。
データベースは運用方法や種類によってかかる費用がさまざまなので一
概にはいえませんが、ここではよくある費用の例を紹介します（図6-5）。
オンプレミスの場合
イニシャルコストとしてサーバやラックなど設備の購入費用と、ラ
ンニングコストとして電気代や人件費などがかかります。セキュリテ
ィや障害対策のための費用が必要となってくることもあるでしょう。
クラウドサービスを利用する場合
初期費用と毎月固定の利用料がかかるサービスの他、時間単位で使
った分だけ課金される従量課金方式のサービスもあります。
