It's worth its weight in gold, in terms of what it allows me to do.

データベースの内容を出力することをダンプと呼びます。ダンプを行う
と、データベースの内容を反映したダンプファイルを作成することができ
ます。このファイルを使って別のデータベースにリストアという作業を実
行することで、ダンプを取ったデータベースと同じ内容のデータベースを
作成することができます（図6-12）。
この機能を用いると、
ことができます。
ダンプファイルの中身は、図6-13 のようにデータベースの内容が反映
されたSQLの羅列になっています。例えばテーブルを作成する「CREATE
TABLE」やレコードを作成する「INSERTINTO」などのコマンドが羅列さ
れていて、この通りにコマンドを実行すると、ダンプを取ったデータベー
スの内容と同じデータベースを作成できるというものです。
そのため、例えばテスト用に本番の環境と同じデータベースを作成する
場合、ダンプファイルを編集することによって、機密情報などのテストデ
ータに含めたくないデータを他のデータに置き換えたり削除したりして、
リストアするといったこともできます。
ダンプはデータベース管理システムで標準の機能として使える場合が多
いです。MySQLの場合は「mysqldump」、PostgreSQLの場合は「pg̲dump」
