
203 – The Cocktail Party
Purpose/Objectives: Leadership style can be assessed on many different
scales. In this exercise, participants have an opportunity
to assess their own styles on an informal, assertive-
passive scale. Participants mingle in a cocktail party
setting. Their task is to meet and talk with three new
people for about 5 minutes each. The activity graphi-
cally demonstrates for participants whether or not they
tend to initiate contacts in such a situation and to what
extent they “carry” the conversation. In the follow-up
discussion, participants look for ways this classroom
experience relates to their working relationships ...
