Purpose/Objectives: Providing direction is a major responsibility for every
manager and supervisor. When providing direction,
managers must first recognize when an individual or the
total group needs direction, then determine the type of
direction that’s needed and follow through. This two-
part exercise develops the skill of choosing what direc-
tion is appropriate in a number of hypothetical situa-
tions. In Part I, participants individually read brief
descriptions of work-related situations, and choose the
most appropriate manager intervention for each one.
