233 – Overcoming Barriers to Delegation
Purpose/Objectives: All too often, managers reduce their efficiency by trying
to do everything themselves. When asked, “Why don’t
you delegate the responsibility?” the manager probably
can give a number of “legitimate” reasons for not
delegating. This exercise stimulates participants to
identify barriers to delegation. The barriers may exist
within the managers themselves, or within the
employees, or within given situations or organizations.
The activity also presents a process for developing
alternatives to overcome those barriers.
