210 – Avoid Common Rating Errors
Purpose/Objectives: Rating performance is a sensitive and difficult process
that is filled with possibilities for error⎯errors of judg-
ment, of positive and negative prejudice, or of over-
sight. Most are unintentional errors, but they can make
a performance evaluation unfair or inaccurate. In this
exercise, participants review a list of eight common
rating errors. Working in small groups, participants dis-
cuss two of these errors and develop strategies for
avoiding them. Then as a total group, participants share
their strategies and create a combined list for avoiding
all errors.
