204 – Perception Problem
Purpose/Objectives: This brain-teaser exercise demonstrates that a group is
often able to generate more and better solutions to
problems than one person working alone.
Participants are asked to solve a series of 20 graphic
puzzles, first on an individual basis and then in small
groups. They compare solutions and, as a rule, discover
that the small group’s collective problem-solving
capacity is greater than their own as individuals.
The exercise also points out that individual preconcep-
tions or “mind sets” may block creative solutions.
