The importance of the fourth discipline—Drive Learning Transfer—is underscored by the evidence that learning transfer is currently the weakest link in most corporate training programs. Learning professionals themselves estimate that only one learner in five applies what he learns in training long enough and well enough to improve his performance. In other words, as much as 80 percent of the potential value of training goes unrealized because transfer fails (Figure D4.1).
