Reasons to Delay
Just as there are strong reasons for encouraging a team to adopt new engineering practices early, there are also reasons why it may be better to wait:
• There may be strong resistance to some practices. Introducing certain technical practices can be one of the most difficult challenges you face when transitioning. Many individuals are extremely reluctant to try new things, such as simple design, pair programming, and test-driven development. Although you may have good reasons to push the team to try new practices close to the outset, they will need to be weighed against the risk of increased resistance.
• Team members may already have their hands full. Just learning the fundamentals of working on a Scrum team can be challenging ...
